Background to Body Detoxification
As a part of normal body functioning, we detox naturally every day. Our bodies eliminate toxins and waste through our kidneys, liver, colon, lymphatic glands, lungs and skin. Our bodies need to be free of toxins to perform at their best. Toxins can be found in our environment - tobacco, alcohol, food additives, drugs, pesticides, heavy metals and industrial pollutants. The toxins as well as metabolic waste must be eliminated as they can attack our immune system and cause a variety of side effects, such as lethargy and tiredness, headaches and migraines, colds and flu, bad skin, bad breath and body odour problems, sinus problems and so on. In fact, some theory exists to suggest that detoxification may at some point be recommended as an alternative to the prevention of immune deficiency diseases.
Our bodies are complex collections of cells and tissues. There are electrical charges in the cells that ideally contain an even proportion of positive and negative ions. In the 'ideal balanced state', our bodies are perfectly balanced and function well by removing toxins efficiently and absorbing oxygen, water and nutrients from food.
When the body experiences any kind of trauma (i.e. due to poor diet, ill health or injuries), the cells become unbalanced and do not function effectively, the process of gradual toxin build up commences. Even a lack of exercise promotes toxic build up as our cells and tissues stagnate and do not sufficiently oxidise.
There are many text book examples on how we should live our lives and how we should improve the way we live. Often we do not realise that our bodies are not performing effectively till it is too late. Our immune system breaks down and we become ill. With health, diet, lifestyle under scrutiny, it is clearly apparent from many areas of research that our bodies need a helping hand to function well.
Our ideal environment should be harmonious, stress and pollution free. We should have a natural balanced diet of unprocessed foods free of additives.
Clearly, we seldom live in such a clean and unpolluted environment.
