HeadSaver Soft Head Protector for the Elderly People
HeadSaver - the Impact Validated Soft Head Protector for the elderly and Infirm People
Falls, trips and slips are common amongst older people. Falls are the leading cause of hospital admissions of older people suffering with serious traumatic fall related injuries, such as hip fractures, wrist fractures, shoulder dislocations, bruises, sprains and head injuries.
The spectrum of fall related head injuries is very broad and encompasses all types of fall related head injuries ranging from relatively minor cuts, bumps, bruises and abrasions to serious and life threatening trauma to the skull, skull fractures, brain injuries, hematomas and concussions.
HeadSaver is a soft head protector designed to protect the head and scalp of the elderly and/or infirm people from the fall related impact forces that could cause head or scalp injuries.

About Falls and Injuries in the Elderly People
Falls in the elderly people are common, but a large proportion of them can be prevented. Reducing the risk of falling is a priority that can be addressed through a thorough risk of falls appraisal and implementation of relevant fall prevention measures. Simple fall prevention measures include medication review, wearing appropriate footwear, checking eyesight and wearing appropriate glasses, improving overall fitness for better balance and muscle strength through regular exercise as well as making the living environment safer and tailored to the specific needs of the elderly residents.
Though many falls are preventable, elderly people continue to fall and suffer fall related injuries. For those unpreventable falls, the emphasis of injury prevention action should focus on a reduction of the fall related impact that causes the injury.
After suffering a fall, elderly people commonly develop a fear of falling. The fear of falling significantly limits physical activities, contributing to loss of mobility, fitness and confidence and can even lead to social isolation with all its negative implications on general health, physical and mental fitness, nutrition aspects and overall life prognosis.
HeadSaver - the Right Choice for Head Protection for the Elderly People
HeadSaver Soft Head Protector is a stylish and comfortable head protector intended to protect the head and scalp from impact forces. HeadSaver soft helmet head protector is suitable for use by people at risk of a fall, trip or slip related injury to the scalp area of the head. HeadSaver is a Class 1 Medical Device designed for wear by a single user.
HeadSaver Soft Head Protector Validation Impact Test
HeadSaver soft helmet has been impact tested and validated to reduce the magnitude of impact forces from accidental head collisions. The impact tests were carried by MTS Laboratory (Melbourne Testing Services Pty. Ltd.) in Australia.
A specially designed test rig was constructed to conduct the impact tests in three impact orientations: frontal, lateral and posterior. A fibreglass mannequin was used to provide support to the soft HeadSaver soft helmet during testing. A mass of 2.3 kg was released at a distance of 0.4 m, 0.08 m, 0.12 m, 0.16 m and 0.20m away from the contact surface.
Based on the recorded peak impact forces and the corresponding impact energies, the energy absorbed versus impact energy were calculated. For the purpose of comparison, the impact measurements were taken both with and without theHeadSaver soft helmet.
1. Frontal Impact Test (with HeadSaver soft helmet): 53% reduction in the peak impact force.
2. Lateral Impact Test (with HeadSaver soft helmet): 56% reduction in the peak impact force.
3. Posterior Impact Test (with HeadSaver soft helmet): 50% reduction in the peak impact force.
HeadSaver Impact Tests summary: For the range of impact tests conducted, lower peak impact forces were observed with the HeadSaver soft helmet, when compared to impact tests conducted without the HeadSaver soft helmet.
