Training programs have patient mode and therapy mode. There are 2 custom EMG/ETS programs. All EMG Biofeedback settings can be changed/adjusted as required. Setting of custom programs should be done by trained medical professional or by the user under the guidance of the therapist.
ETS
EMG Triggered Stimulation (ETS) is a therapeutic fusion between EMG Biofeedback and Neuromuscular Stimulation. ETS is most commonly used in all types of muscle rehabilitation, including pelvic floor rehabilitation and pelvic floor muscles re-education. During ETS, the patient is required to contract the muscle as much as possible against target threshold. Once the target is achieved, the stimulation is triggered to supplement the naturally achieved muscle contraction beyond the contracting muscle’s actual ability.
ETS Threshold
Threshold is an EMG value measured in microvolts (µV). Stronger muscles which perform strong contractions have a higher threshold than weak or flaccid muscles. In ETS mode (EMG Triggered Stimulation), the user / patient needs to exceed to contract the muscles above the target threshold to trigger stimulation.
ETS treatment is especially useful for retraining and strengthening of the pelvic floor muscles. ETS mode also enables the user to stimulate weak muscles by setting a low level threshold target and adjusting the Work and Rest periods to individual patient needs.
Nu-Tek Levator Elite has an Automatic (pre-set) threshold for both EMG and ETS sessions – designed to adjust the EMG muscle strength scale and the point of ETS triggering to the actual level of the patient’s EMG biofeedback muscle contraction.
There is also a Manual threshold, which can be adjusted by the therapist as appropriate or required.
In the Patient mode, the Nu-Tek Levator Elite displays a simple and easy to understand EMG Biofeedback bar graph that illustrates pelvic floor muscle strength and helps the user to achieve their pre-set goals.
There are 6 levels on the Muscle Strength Grading Scale (Nu-Tek Scale) – measured in EMG microvolts (µV).
- Virtually no muscle contraction and very little microvolt reading.
- Slight muscle contraction with little movement, increased microvolt reading and a short contraction muscle holding time.
- Moderate muscle contraction with increased movement and microvolt reading and a longer muscle contraction holding time.
- Firm contraction and improved muscle holding time.
- Strong contraction with longer muscle holding time.
- Robust contraction with greatly improved muscle holding time.
Please note that the resting muscle tone has a value of 4 microvolts or lower.
